We have always adored Avantgarde speakers from afar. They seemed out of this world, esoteric, and just out of reach for us, mere mortals.

But a YouTube link shared between our team made us go from mere intellectual curiosity to serious consideration. Thankfully, we already knew Cameron, who was the local distributor and he was very supportive of us taking on the brand.

Within weeks, Cameron had managed to secure our first Avantgarde speakers, the Duo SD with iTron amplification and had it delivered to our store. We were, simply put, enthralled by it.

And it was inevitable then, that we would want the flagship Trio G3 in our store.

But both Avantgarde and us were aware that it can be quite daunting for someone first starting out in this hobby to be able to splurge on a pair of Avantgarde speakers - even the Uno SD. And that isn't even considering how much space these speakers would need in our homes to sound their best.

So Avantgarde's engineers went off to try to distil the essence of their speakers and produced the Colibri C2. We first heard these speakers in Munich, and even in a crowded room, with terrible acoustics, we could see its potential.

Last week, we finally received our first shipment of the Colibri. And it is a dream come true.

These speakers are just so easy to fall in love with. They retain the signature sound of Avantgarde speakers, and they are also easier to drive and will sound great with modest amplifiers.

Ideally, you would want to match these with a subwoofer to reach the lowest depths of most music. Avantgarde will be releasing a matching 18" subwoofer with its own 1200W of amplification. And it will integrate nicely with the C2, complete with a matching integrated stand.

But for now, I have been running the pair of C2s with a single Martin Logan Dynamo 800X 10" sealed subwoofer. The 800X sports smartphone app control for tuning the subwoofer and also employs the highly acclaimed Anthem Room Correction that you can run on your iPhone. I was thus able to dial in the settings I needed from my listening position and blend the subwoofer seamlessly with the Colibri C2s.
